August 16-23. Ukrainian summer camp for children still in Ukraine during the war. The kids travel from Eastern Ukraine to Western Ukraine for a break from war. The kids did not want to leave, and we would have let them stay if there were any way to keep them longer. In the first video below, Alona and Sole’ wanted me to help them bring their tubes up to the top because they were too small to drag them up the hill. On the first day of camp, I was at the pool with Alona (the one on the left in the video) and around 25 other kids. Alona was initially afraid of the deep end, but with some encouragement and a few swimming lessons by the end of the evening, she was able to dive in and swim the width of the pool. It’s great to see young children learn to overcome their fears. The week was full of significant events like this for all the kids. It’s an opportunity for the kids to be kids again, even for just a week.
