Below are pictures of two kids I met at the Say Yes Camp. Sophie is the one in white, and Sonya is in blue. In the last picture, Sonya had just come out of the water tube with me on one of the waterpark rides. Their joy is evident in all these pictures. Sophie is a child with no fear; wherever we went, snow tubing, the waterpark, or dancing, she was in on the action and afraid of nothing; she would dive into the deep of the pool with no fear. When I pulled her out, she would jump back in again and wait for me to rescue her.
Their expressions of pure happiness give me as much joy as they feel. At the end of every day, Mike (an FH Board Member on the trip with me) would say, “Today was a great day.” We were far from the tragedy of war and death. When they saw us coming, they knew it was time to start the party.
Many of the kids have lost one or both of their parents from the war, and thanks to the donors, this camp gave them a break from their difficult lives.
